Alabama lawmakers are pushing to ban Delta-8, Delta-9, and Delta-10 THC. Senate Bill 132, introduced by Sen. Tim Melson (R-Florence), would classify these substances as controlled, outlawing their sale and possession by October 2025.
Supporters argue these products are largely unregulated and pose health risks, especially for youth. Law enforcement says the legal gray area complicates enforcement.
Opponents warn the ban could devastate Alabama’s hemp industry, costing jobs and pushing consumers to the black market. Medical marijuana patients also rely on Delta-8 for pain relief, as the state’s cannabis program faces delays.
